Week 1 Update

Hello DKV Family!

The first week with these newborn Rottweilers has been wonderful. All four puppies are super strong and super adorable. Nothing too exciting happens the first week. Angel pretty much lives in the puppy room the first week. He simply makes sure the babies are nursing every 2 hours. When they are not nursing, Angel makes sure they are snuggled close to mama, since they are unable to regulate their body temperature at this age. If you never saw a newborn pup, their eyes are sealed shut and their ears are also sealed closed. These will open in about two weeks. For now, we just make sure the pups are warm, nursing, and believe relieved… they can not do that on their own either. We don’t handle the pups too much this week because it’s all about keeping them healthy and strong and allowing mama to bond with her babies. Congratulations to our new Rottweiler parents!

Week 2 Update

Hello DKV Family!

Another week has gone by and your Rottweiler babies continue to grow strong. I forgot to mention in the last update that the babies did have their tails docked and dew claws removed. So that was a big update to mention.

Besides that, the babies are still nursing great. They are quite pros at it now and they stay pretty close to mama. With only four puppies, they all get a double serving, so they are very satisfied with that fun perk. You can tell by their beautiful chunky bodies, that they are very satisfied and growing just perfectly!

Eyes and ears are cracking. This is so exciting. Seeing a small glimpse of their eyes is so special. I just love to see them look back at me for the first time. Another fun event is watching the puppies react to their first sounds. We will have more of that in next weeks update.

That’s all for now. See you next week, same time, same place.

PS. So I took photos of these babies the other day. We were putting new blankets down in their whelping box and I placed these babies in a basket. They were so cute the way they were laying on top of each other and staying in a tight group. If you don’t know, Rottweiler puppies are unable to regulate their body temperature this young, so they pile up to stay warm. I just thought they looked so cute, so I grabbed the camera. I tried to get close ups so you can see their eyes cracked. Some are still sealed on the corners, but they are now looking back at me! Enjoy!

Week 3 Update

Hello, DKV Family!

Your Rottweiler babies are all doing wonderful. Drama is such a great mama and she takes great care of her babies. Their appetites are healthy and they seem to always be nursing! They are walking and running… and falling. Everything is exactly as expected. They are still too young to be interested in toys or wrestling, they just simply eat, poop, sleep, and repeat. Enjoy!

Week 4 Update

Hello, DKV Family!

We have made it to the halfway point. These Rottweiler puppies are so cute! They are extremely chunky and they are very heavy when you hold them. Mama must have some extra sugar in her milk because they are becoming mini tanks!

Angel introduced some puppy to the babies because they kept getting into mama’s bowl of food. Even without teeth, they were trying to eat her dinner. So, Angel softened some kibbles and let the puppies go at it… and they did. So now they are eating a little bit of soft kibble, as well as nursing on mama.

Overall, your Rottweiler babies are doing absolutely wonderful. They are becoming playful with each other. They will chew on each others ears and play wrestle until they get tired. It is so cute to watch because they are still so gentle with each other. This will definitely change in a few weeks though. LOL.

I have some individual photos below, so everyone can begin to see these gorgeous Rottweiler puppies individually! Enjoy!

Week 5 Update

Hello, DKV family.

Your babies are now five weeks old. Can you believe it? They are continuing to be playful with each other and they are really becoming curious of everything around them. When we walk by their whelping box, they all look up to see who it is, but now they also run to the side hoping to be picked up or played with. When the Rottweiler puppies were younger, they would all look up, but they would stay closely huddled around mama. Now that they are getting a little older and more curious, they are enjoying people interaction. The Rottweiler puppies run up to the side of the whelping box because they now look forward to being held and touched. I love this stage. The puppies are all so affectionate and so sweet.

Besides curiosity in people, you can see the puppies curiosity in their doggie toys. The puppies are learning to interact with different toys that have different textures and make different sounds. They haven’t mastered what to do with them, but they are beginning to play with them.

Appetites continue to be amazing. These chunky Rottweiler puppies eat kibble and also still nurse on mama. Drama is such a good mom and she enjoys nursing her babies. I have some mamas who are done with their puppies at week 4, especially when teeth come in. But that is not Drama. She would probably nurse her babies up to eight weeks of age, if we let her.

That’s all for now. Babies are doing great!

Week 6 Update

Hello, DKV family!

I am so excited to show you all of these gorgeous Rottweiler puppies. They are just so darn cute! They all have bubble heads and solid bodies. I call them my little tanks. Appetites are great (surprise, surprise) and they are eating both kibble and nursing on mama still. They will be weaned off Drama tomorrow. I think I explained in the past that Drama is a great mama. She would nurse her babies until 8 weeks of age if we allowed her.

Besides their appetites, their personalities are also phenomenal. These Rottweiler puppies are very playful with each other. They don’t quite wrestle and play crazy with each other yet, instead they play nice and gentle with each other. That actually cracks us up. I am guessing that will change in a week, or maybe they will stay this sweet and gentle forever. We will see. Ha, ha.

These Rottweiler puppies did go to the vet and had a full health exam, which they passed with flying colors. They also had their hearts checked and no heart murmurs were detected. These puppies also received a fecal test and a giardia test, and came back negative for both tests, meaning no worms or parasites. They even received their first round of puppy vaccines. So, everything is looking great! Enjoy!

Week 7 Update

Hello, DKV Family!

We made it. The puppies are all doing great. They have definitely woke up since last week. LOL. They are now full of energy, running around, exploring outside, wrestling with each other, playing with toys, and just being fun Rottweiler puppies.

We are weaning mama off the puppies. We tried to let her stay with them for as long as we could. Drama is actually not happy about it. She wants to jump in the whelping box and nurse her babies still, but we have to get them on full kibble before they leave to their new homes. I just love how much Drama cares about her babies.

The litter will go to the vet again later this week. They will have their final check up and receive all of their official health documents. Just a few more days everyone!
