Growth Updates 0-8 Weeks

Pregnancy

Congratulations to John Wick and our beautiful girl, Freaka. This is the first litter for both John Wick and Freaka, so we are beyond excited. Freaka is the last Rottweiler that goes back to foundation Rottweilers from over 20+ years ago.

Delivery Day

Congratulations to John Wick and Freaka! This is the first litter for both of them. I am so in love with these chunkers. This video was taken just hours after birth. Look at how chunky and strong these newborns are. They are so precious. Make sure you have the volume up to hear their sweet newborn sounds. Next, congratulations to the lucky DKV families who will be reserving these sweet angels. What a happy day. Enjoy!

Week 1 Update

Hello DKV family!

We made it through week one. The first week is when we learn which puppies are strong and which puppies are weak. Sometimes puppies do not make it through the first week. We are happy to announce this was never an issue with this litter. These babies have been super strong since birth. They even were some of the strongest when it came to nursing immediately after birth. That never changed, and the puppies have continued to grow into the most cutest butterballs, as you will see below.

Nothing much happens the first week of life. The puppies sleep about 22-23 hours each day. Yep, you read that correct. They wake up for only a few minutes to nurse, and then go back to bed. Their eyes are sealed closed and even their ears are sealed closed, so they do not see or hear during the first week of life. That being said, we try not to disturb mama or the babies too much during this time. It’s all about mama bonding with her babies and the babies staying strong, which they clearly are.

Have a blessed week. Meet you here next week for your next puppy update.

Week 2 Update

Hello DKV family!

Freaka continues to prove herself as a wonderful mother. She is very protective over her babies and keeps them close and in sight at all times. When we let her outside to relieve herself, she does her business and is always eager to run back to her puppies as quickly as possible.

The babies continue to grow strong each day. They are massively large and so ridiculously impressive. Their eyes and ears are still sealed closed, but we do see the eyes beginning to crack. This is always my favorite time of their growth. There is nothing more exciting then seeing these beautiful Rottweiler babies with their eyes open and having them look back at you. Next week, I will be sure to get our first set of individual photos for everyone.

Again, there is not much to report at this young age. Puppies cannot regulate their body temperatures, so they just stay nestled close to their mama, eat, sleep, sleep, and sleep. Until next week…

Week 3 Update

Hello DKV family!

Your babies are now three weeks old and they continue to blow us away. It is not often that you see female puppies this impressive at such a young age. These babies are truly special and very impressive.

Puppies have opened their eyes! Oh my, they are so cute! Their ears have also opened and we have even heard their baby barks when experiencing new sounds. It is too cute watching these babies grow and begin to show the first signs of curiosity. When they hear something, they all stand up and try to steak a peak. They are nosey puppies. LOL.

Freaka continues to be a great mom. She keeps her babies close, she keeps them fed, and she keeps them clean. We cannot ask any more from her. Freaka is such a calm and social female, and she does not mind any of us picking up her babies while she is in the whelping box. She has always been such a kind and loveable Rottweiler, and we can’t wait to see her personality passed onto her offspring.

Week 4 Update

Hello, DKV family!

First, thank you for your patience this week. We are a few days late because Angel and I were on a mini vacation celebrating our 28th Anniversary. Don’t worry, your babies were very well taken care of by our three sons. They all traveled down and stayed at the house to take care of all our sweet DKV Rotties.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but these puppies continue to impress us day after day. When we got back home, I feel like they doubled in size again. They are just so impressive and so incredibly cute that I can’t imagine parting with any of them. Don’t worry, I will not be saying this at 8 weeks of age when they are full of energy. LOL.

Appetites are wonderful, of course. The puppies are becoming more and more curious. Their personalities are just beginning to show themselves ever so slightly. These babies are starting to wonder a tiny bit further away from mama to play and to explore. This is just the beginning of these babies starting to build their confidence and start becoming their individual selves.

We just took some photos and videos today. Please email me and let me know what you think. If these babies do not blow you away, I don’t know what will. They are just WOW! Enjoy!

Week 5 Update

Hello, DKV family!

The puppies are now 5 weeks old and they are doing amazing. These pups look like little bear cubs! Angel has introduced his puppy milkshakes this week. This is simply softened puppy kibble. So far, the puppies really enjoy the extra food, which is no surprise. Of course, they are still nursing on mama. However at this age, the puppies begin to grow even faster, so the puppy milkshake gives them that extra boost of food to fully satisfy them. This also helps us to prepare them for being weaned off mama next week.

Personalities are beginning to bloom. All of the puppies LOVE attention. The second they see us walk by, they rush over to the whelping box door. They absolutely love being picked up and loved on. This is because we always made sure to handle the puppies a lot during the first few weeks of life. The socialization and interaction is very important at a young age. We definitely do our part and have a great time doing it. LOL.

The babies are bring introduced to new toys. They don’t really know what to do with them yet, but that will change quickly. They are also becoming more playful with each other. At this age, it just gentle pawing or pouncing on each other. It’s funny how gentle they are with their “rough” play at this age… meaning they are not rough at all but super gentle. That will change also. LOL. Overall, just a bunch of sweet and gentle bear cubs!

I will get some pics for our next update so you all can see how big they are getting. Have a blessed week.

Week 6 Update

Hello, DKV family!

We made it to week six. Only two more weeks! These babies are really striving and doing wonderfully. They continue to grow in confidence and curiosity. They are becoming more playful with their toys and with each other. Again, everything is typical and on track with their age.

This week is when we will learn more about each one’s personality and see if any have traits that stick out more than others. As of today, all seem to be pretty consistent, which is completely normal. However, the next ten days is when we will begin to see differences, if any.

The babies have worked their way up from puppy milkshakes to hard kibble. I can tell you that they are being a bit fussy about eating more kibble and less of mama’s milk. All of my puppies go through this stage. Of course, they prefer mama’s milk over kibble. We will work through this throughout this week, and by week seven they will be one hundred percent on kibble. That will get them one step closer to be ready for their new homes.

The puppies did have visit the vet this week for their first puppy vaccine. The exam went perfect. Everyone was blown away by these puppies, which is always a treat to hear. The vet said they were all healthy and no heart murmurs were detected. So good news all around. They will return to the vet at 7.5 weeks, just before they head to their new homes. This is when they will receive any necessary health documents for their transport.

We will get photos for everyone this week. Then, we will start our puppy selections next week. Once our selections are complete, we will get the purchase contracts completed, as well as all health documents and AKC registrations. That’s the update for this week. I will send everyone an email when I get puppy photos posted. Enjoy your week!

Week 7 Update

Hello DKV family!

I got some new individual photos for everyone. It actually took a few days since the weather has been quite horrible the past few days. Regardless, photos are done and now it is time to select you puppy! Selection day is the most exciting day for everyone, so we try to get it done as quickly as possible. At the same time, it is a big decision, so please be patient. I will start with the first pick customer, then moved on to the second pick customer… and so on.

As we explained when you reserved your DKV Rottweiler, both parents have amazing temperaments. John Wick (DAD) is social with people and our other dogs, he loves to swim, he has lots of positive energy, and is just a fun dog overall. Freaka (MOM) is very calm, gentle, affectionate, and loves to follow Angel wherever he goes. She is more laid back but absolutely loves to play fetch with her squeak tennis ball.

As expected, these puppies are playful, have positive energy, love people, and just seem very mid-range with energy. They do play rough house with each other like all litters do, but on a more gentle level. They are energetic in the morning, but again, more mild then most. Overall, they are extremely sweet and I believe they will be wonderful with children and existing pets. That being said, none stand out with any extreme habits over the other. For example, none stand out as a bossy alpha, or food aggressor, or anything that would be important to match. If I had to be very picky and put them in order by temperament, I would say the leader of pack due to confidence and first to react is PINK, most mid range in overall energy and playfulness is PURPLE and RED, and most gentle and affectionate would be ORANGE. Again, they are all so consistent.
