Week 1 Update

Hello DKV Family!

Our babies are now one week old and they are absolutely amazing. Each and every one are perfect and we could not be more pleased. Drama is an amazing mama. She is so careful around her babies. When she comes in from being outside, sometimes a puppy will latch on before she even has a chance to lay down. If that happens, she just stays in whatever position she is in, until they are done. She is just so sweet and gentle around her babies and it melts our hearts.

As newborns, not much happens. They first two weeks are all about the babies nursing and growing, and that is what they go. They eat and sleep all day. Their eyes and ears are sealed closed and they cannot regulate their body temperature. So, they simply lay close to mama all day, every day. She keeps them fed and warm. Everything is going perfectly. See you next week for your next update.

Week 2 Update

Hello DKV Family!

Your babies are now three weeks old. They have to be the fattest two week old puppies ever. LOL. Sometimes I check up on them and I cannot believe they are still eating. I told Angel he needs to start feeding Drama triple, just to keep up with these monsters. The boys are typical males. They eat until they are about to pop and then fall asleep belly up. They are all too cute.

Right now, their eyes are still sealed shut. I will have to look at each of them closely when I take photos, to see if any of babies have began to crack open their eyes. I love seeing their eyes for the first time. Ears are also sealed shut, so they do not react to sound or anything yet.

The only goal right now is to keep these babies happy and full and allow them 20 hours of sleep time each day… and we are exceeding that goal. Yep, puppies do sleep that much at this age. That’s all for now. Enjoy the photos!

UPDATE: Angel said their eyes began to crack last night. If you look at the photos closely, you can see a few cracks on purple, green, and yellow. Pink is the only pup whose eyes are fully open. They should be fully open by tomorrow or Tuesday. Love it.

Week 3 Update

Hello DKV family!

Another week has gone by and your babies are doing phenomenal. One of the biggest changes this week was being able to see all of these precious babies open their eyes. They now look straight into your eyes when you pick them up. They are even more beautiful now, if that is even possible.

Another big change was all of their ears have opened. This means they can now hear. This might not seem like a big deal, but it is. When they hear us open and close the door, or drop something on the floor, they immediately pop their heads up. It’s adorable because they are curious to learn where that noise came from. Occasionally, you might get a baby growl or bark and there is nothing cuter than that!

The last change we have seen is the puppies this week is their ability to get around a little quicker. They do crawl around now and sometimes get too excited and still fall. Before you know it, they will be running full speed and we will be chasing them around the house.

Other than the changes mentioned above, everything else is mostly the same. The puppies routine is eating, sleeping, repeat, repeat, repeat. They sleep about 18-20 hours a day. This is normal and important for their growth. That being said, they are all doing perfect. See you next week.

Here is a video from last week that I thought you would enjoy!

Week 4 Update

Hello DKV Family!

We made it to week four. This is probably my favorite week because they are still so calm and gentle, but their personalities are just starting to break through. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s like week four is the last week before the puppies turn into terrors. Right now, they are getting curious, but they will only go so far. They want to catch your toe, but they are too slow and just gum you gently. They like being held and they love to give affection back. Next week, it will all change! Next week, they will be running around, they will be getting into trouble, they will be wrestling each other, and so much more. I am just going to enjoy this stage as much as I can. LOL

Appetites are still ridiculous. They nurse on mama, and they are eating softened puppy food. They must be some of the fattest puppies ever, and that is okay. A chunky puppy means a healthy puppy.

As stated above, personalities are just starting to peak through. We are getting a glimpse at who is more curious, who is more energetic, who is the food hog, etc. These babies will occasionally bark and howl and react to unfamiliar sounds. Overall, they are all doing perfect.

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there. Have a blessed weekend. Enjoy the photos.

Week 5 Update

Hello DKV family!

We have made it to week 5. The babies continue to grow and strive. Appetites are still very impressive. All of the puppies are still nursing and eating soft puppy kibble as well. They are so chunky, they look like bears.

Curiosity is surely increasing with the babies. They are looking around the house more and have began to explore a little further, look around the corner and behind the couch, and any other place they can peak their big bubble heads. They are not running around like firecrackers yet, but that day is only a week or so away.

Of the six puppies, one has not stepped up to claim the leader role, just yet. They are all pretty even across the board, but again, this may change next week. I do have to say that Drama’s previous litter was the same way. Her puppies are always calm and social, and we had a real hard time seeing any significant differences. This litter, once again, is turning out to be identical with their calm and social personalities, which is amazing.

Enjoy the photos everyone!

Week 6 Update

Hello DKV family!

We made it to the import 6 week mark. This is when we begin to get things rolling. After the 4th of July weekend, we will get some photos of the babies and do our official puppy selections. Once selections are done, we can get the ball rolling on the purchase contracts, health records, and AKC registrations.

Overall, babies are doing great. They still have great appetites, nursing on mama and eating puppy kibble. They will be fully weaned off of their mama by the end of the week, so Drama is no longer staying with her babies all day. Right now, Drama is nursing her babies four times a day. We will continue to decrease the amount of daily nursing, until the puppies are fully weaned off.

The puppies have come out of their shells and they are full of energy. This is the week when personalities will really begin to shine. The puppies love to wrestle with each other and they love to play with toys. They are super curious and they are all really learning to explore and test their limits.

Enjoy the rest of our 4th of July weekend and we will touch base in a few days and start our puppy selections! Yay!!!

Week 7 Update

Hello DKV family!

Your babies are now 7 weeks old! Only a few more days before you are bringing your fur babies home.

All of the babies are doing wonderful. They are now weaned off of mama and are eating only dry kibble and water. They have wonderful appetites and do well sharing the food with their siblings. Angel does provide access to food at all times for the puppies because they are growing so much right now. Once you get your babies home, you may want to reduce the feeding to twice a day. This will help with the potty training, since you can expect them to potty shortly after each feeding.

The puppies are energetic, playful, and love their puppy toys. We had a second litter here at DKV that was one week older than your litter. They were very energetic and loved to rough house. Compared to them, these pups are quite mild. They are playful but nothing over the top. This is very typical of Drama’s puppies and very similar to her last litter. I think you all will really enjoy their sweet and playful energy.

Tomorrow, the babies all have their health appointment. They will receive their full physical exam, heart check, fecal check, and receive their first puppy vaccine. When we are finished at the vet, we will be sure to email everyone the results. Then, we will begin our official puppy selections!!!

I don’t think anyone will have a hard time selecting from this litter. Unlike most litters, there is not one over the top alpha, or one who is extremely submissive, or anything like that. The puppies from this litter are all truly mid range. They play together well and they eat together well. They all share like good babies. They explore the house together and I would say they are equally curious. This is so different from our other litter, but again, it is typical of Drama’s offspring.

There is one thing that gets this litter very excited, and that is when they see you. When we walk by, they all rush to the side of their litter box and stand up on the side of the box, pushing each other to be the first to be picked up. They are truly social and love interacting with us, which I think is quite precious. All that being said, picking should be quite simple. This is one litter where look preference will play a larger role, over personality.

We’ll begin tomorrow! Enjoy the photos!

PS. The vet apt is not until 4:30 pm, so I won’t be reaching out to everyone until much later in the evening. Have a blessed night.
